Impact Fellowship
The Impact Fellowship is a six-month program designed to empower systems-impacted women to engage with policy and advocacy. Through immersive education, personalized mentorship, and professional network building, participants gain the tools to influence the decisions that matter most to their lives and communities.
This fellowship addresses systemic barriers—like financial constraints, limited networks, and underrepresentation—that exclude women from political power. By cultivating skills in policymaking, connecting participants with influential leaders, and fostering a supportive community, the Impact Fellowship creates pathways for equitable representation and systemic change. Together, we’re amplifying voices and transforming the future of policymaking.
Our Advocacy Campaigns serve as a platform to increase awareness, education, and investment in the issues impacting the women we serve most. These campaigns are co-created by participants across all our programs, ensuring that the initiatives reflect the voices and lived experiences of those most affected. Together, participants identify key issues, collaborate with policy experts, engage stakeholders, and craft actionable advocacy materials and recommendations.
Advocacy campaigns led by systems-impacted women bring their lived experiences to the forefront, creating more effective and equitable solutions. Historically, marginalized voices have been excluded from policy development, resulting in programs that fail to address the real needs of impacted communities. Studies show that community-led advocacy fosters greater trust, accountability, and alignment between policies and lived realities, leading to more impactful and sustainable change
Despite the proven value of community-driven efforts, barriers such as limited access to resources, lack of technical skills, and insufficient networks prevent systems-impacted women from leading advocacy initiatives. By addressing these challenges, we empower participants to create meaningful change while building a more inclusive society.
Benefits
Skill Development: Participants learn practical advocacy tools, such as research methods, public speaking, and crafting policy recommendations.
Social Capital Expansion: Women connect with policymakers, experts, and stakeholders, broadening their professional networks and influence.
Community Impact: Campaigns result in actionable materials like policy briefs, organizing events, and advocacy strategies, directly addressing community priorities.
Leadership Empowerment: Participants gain confidence and a sense of agency, transforming into advocates for their communities.
Key Advocacy Practices
Our advocacy campaigns are grounded in methodologies proven effective in community-led organizing, including:
Participatory Action Research (PAR): Engaging participants in every stage of research ensures campaigns reflect authentic community needs.
Collaborative Policymaking: Working alongside policymakers fosters mutual understanding and increases the likelihood of systemic change.
Intersectional Advocacy: Addressing overlapping challenges, such as race, gender, and economic inequality, ensures comprehensive and inclusive solutions
Advocacy Campaigns
Community workshops are a cornerstone for increasing awareness and empowering civic participation, particularly among underrepresented groups. Research shows that higher levels of community awareness directly correlate with increased voter turnout and civic engagement. For instance, nonpartisan voter education initiatives have been shown to improve political participation by demystifying electoral processes and connecting personal interests to policy impacts. Unfortunately, many individuals, especially those in marginalized communities, lack access to such educational resources due to barriers like cost, time, and childcare
Benefits
Our community workshops serve as accessible and inclusive platforms for:
Civic Education: Providing resources and tools to understand upcoming elections, policy proposals, and local governance.
Empowered Participation: Encouraging individuals to engage in advocacy, voting, and community leadership roles.
Breaking Barriers: Offering free or low-cost access, childcare during events, and multilingual materials to reduce participation hurdles.
Collective Impact: Building stronger communities through informed collaboration and shared goals.
Evidence-Based Practices
Our workshops are rooted in best practices identified in civic engagement research:
Interactive Learning: Hands-on activities, such as mock elections and community mapping, make complex topics relatable and actionable.
Inclusivity in Design: Hosting hybrid sessions (in-person and virtual), offering multiple time slots, and partnering with trusted local organizations ensure workshops meet diverse needs
Action-Oriented Outcomes: Participants leave workshops equipped with actionable steps, such as voter registration plans or advocacy strategies, fostering sustained engagement
By prioritizing accessibility and evidence-backed methods, our Community Workshops empower individuals to contribute meaningfully to the decisions that shape their lives, promoting equitable civic participation and stronger democratic engagement.
Community Workshops
IThe Impact Fellowship is a transformative 6-month program designed to immerse systems-impacted women in the dynamic world of policy and advocacy. This fellowship equips participants with the knowledge, networks, and tools to influence decisions on the issues that affect them most, fostering equity in political spaces and shaping future leaders.
Women, especially those impacted by systemic barriers, are underrepresented in politics and policymaking. Globally, only 26.9% of parliamentarians are women, and fewer than 23.3% hold ministerial positions leading policy areas. Without diverse voices, critical issues like gender equity, domestic violence, and economic justice remain inadequately addressed. Structural challenges—such as campaign costs, limited childcare, and exclusion from decision-making networks—disproportionately hinder systems-impacted women from accessing political opportunities. Research shows that when women hold leadership roles, governance becomes more transparent, equitable, and inclusive
Fellowship Benefits
Policy Education: Comprehensive training on legislative processes and advocacy strategies.
Social Capital Expansion: Opportunities to connect with policymakers and advocacy organizations.
Workforce Readiness: Development of professional skills and a network to navigate political ecosystems.
Empowerment Through Community: A supportive cohort of women sharing lived experiences, fostering collaboration and solidarity.
Evidence-Based Practices
The Impact Fellowship integrates proven approaches such as mentorship by experienced leaders, skills-building workshops, and access to advocacy networks. These strategies address systemic barriers and create pathways for participants to influence policy effectively. Programs like these not only empower individuals but also drive systemic change by ensuring that policy reflects the perspectives and needs of all communities
